Mr Joideep Phadnis grew up in North London and studied medicine at the University of Sheffield qualifying in 2003. He completed his basic surgical training in London and his higher surgical training on the South West Thames Orthopaedic programme.

Further to this, Mr Phadnis has completed over two years of international and UK based specialist fellowship training. This includes one-year of Orthopaedic Trauma surgery in New Zealand, one year of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in Adelaide, and six months of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in the internationally renowned Wrightington Upper Limb unit. He is also an invited delegate to the prestigious Mayo clinic elbow course in the United States.

Mr Phadnis’ primary clinical practice encompasses all aspects of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. This includes primary and revision joint replacement, arthroscopic (key hole) surgery and soft tissue reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow including biceps tears, rotator cuff tears and recurrent shoulder and elbow instability. In addition, he also treats sports related injuries and acute and chronic complex trauma affecting the shoulder and elbow.



Mr Phadnis is actively involved in the design and supervision of clinical based academic research through his links with Brighton University. In the last two years he has published research on shoulder replacement, shoulder instability, shoulder fractures and dislocations, elbow replacement, distal biceps reconstruction and elbow arthroscopy. In addition, he has written papers on prevention of infection in shoulder and elbow replacement and optimising patient safety, which he is passionate about. He has also contributed a number of invited chapters to several international books on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

Mr Phadnis has a strong interest in medical education and training. He is involved with teaching and training of medical students, trainee surgeons and peer-to-peer teaching of fellow orthopaedic surgeons. He has authored and edited one of the most widely used books by trainee surgeons in preparation for their consultancy exams (Revision notes for the FRCS Orth).

He is married with two feisty young children who constantly keep him and his wife on their toes. He is a keen sportsman having completed several marathons, enjoys skiing and cycling and has played Saturday league football for over 20 years up until recently when his body has told him to stop! He also loves cooking, eating and drinking and is a founding member of a Steak club.
